During winter of 2009, I was working with my partner, Frank, on a web site that he
needed help with coding. He owns a private design studio, VOX801, which mainly
helps companies and organizations with print media. Web-development was new
to him, so he asked me to turn a Photoshop template into a workign website.
We got into a disagreement over a minor part of his template. I suggested a way
to make it easier on the reader to navigate the different pages. We talked about
pros and cons of my proposal over a warm cup of tea.
That evening, I learned an
important lesson from Frank. He said: "it's not what you look at that matters. It's
what you see." That's his company's motto.
I took a step back and reflected upon this idea. About a year later, I incorporated
it into a new telemarketing campaign with a local business called DonorSearch,
except this time around, it was "it's not what we say that matters. It's what they
hear."
So as you consider your options for content creation, graphic design or marketing,
what I want you to take away from me is this: no matter what your goals are,
there will be right and wrong ways to go about achieving those. I'm here to make
sure you can fairly consider your options before making firm decisions. After all,
it's better to measure seven times and cut once, right?
